Father's Day tragedy on the Coosa

WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - A Father's Day outing has turned to tragedy on the Coosa River.

Wetumpka police say a father drowned Sunday afternoon, despite an all-out rescue effort.

The victim is identified as 64-year-old Jimmy Debortoli of Montgomery.

Officers say Debortoli rented a kayak with his daughter and while on the river he got stranded in near Corn Creek Park. His daughter was not in the kayak at the time.

First responders and witnesses were able to pull the man from the rocks, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
