MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Lee County School board members are giving the go ahead for the new high school in Smiths Station.  The school board told the contractor Tuesday night to start construction.

The school will house 1500 students in grades ten through twelve.  However, the school can hold 2,000.

The price tag stands at $31 million, that's $8 million less than originally estimated.  "We had 12 contractors from Georgia and Alabama all bidding on the project and the price of the materials, the price of labor, the competitiveness is what has driven the construction costs down to the building," explained architect Walter McKee.
