Kay Ivey begins campaign for governor

State Treasurer Kay Ivey says her range of experience makes her different from the other candidates in the crowded field of Republicans running for governor.

Ivey launched her campaign Wednesday morning at the Capitol in Montgomery. She said she is the only candidate who has been a classroom teacher and has worked with the Alabama Development Office to bring new industry to the state.

Ivey also said she would not have a learning curve as a new governor because she has worked closely with state budgets as treasurer.

Ivey joins four Republicans who have already announced for the primary election in June 2010: Greenville businessman Tim James, former Chief Justice Roy Moore, former two-year college Chancellor Bradley Byrne, and state Rep. Robert Bentley of Tuscaloosa.
