MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery just got a little tougher in its effort to fight crime. The city's first substation precinct opened on the East South Boulevard. Police and city officials say they believe this is one more tool to fight crime.
The two story building won't have any investigators but around 20 to 30 uniformed officers. It will operate more 22 hours 6 days a week.
The city is leasing it from Baptist Health for the grand total of one dollar a year, and Mayor Todd Strange says it didn't cost that much to get it set up.
MPD is looking at putting in a police substation around the areas of West Fairview and Eastdale Mall.
