Covington County Sheriff investigates murder, husband arrested

Florala, Ala (WSFA) -  On July 3, 2009, sometime after 5:00 A. M., Sheriff's Deputies and Investigators responded to a home on North Creek Road in Florala, AL.

E-911 dispatchers had received a call from the residence stating that someone may be dead.

Deputies arrived, secured the scene, and directed rescue to the residence.

Dorothy Cravey Copeland, 63, of Florala, AL was pronounced dead at the scene.

She had suffered what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound to the head.

Sheriff Meeks arrived to direct the investigation and to coordinate with the appropriate state and local agencies.

Sheriff"s Investigators worked for close to ten hours documenting and processing the scene.

Investigators determined that Dorothy Copeland was murdered by her husband Bobby Wayne Copeland.

Bobby Copeland, 69, previously of Dothan, AL was arrested and placed in the Covington County Jail on the charge of Murder.

He is currently being held without bond.

Bobby Wayne Copeland doesn't have a criminal history in the state or national crime index computer systems.
