FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - The Division II football championship game will remain in Florence at least through 2011.
The NCAA announced the decision Monday. The game has been played at Florence's Braly Stadium since 1986 and Shoals National Championship Committee chairman Grady Liles said he hopes it will stay put permanently. The NCAA had accepted bids from other host sites for the 2010 and 2011 games.
The organization had voiced hopes for several changes at Braly Stadium. Those included adding a video scoreboard and artificial turf as well as upgrading the locker rooms and replacing the chain-link fence around the field.
Committee volunteer Mitch Dobbins said no changes were guaranteed in the new contract, though they would like to add the scoreboard and turf.
