DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has found that emergency plan violations occurred at the Farley Nuclear Plant near Dothan.
The commission said Tuesday that Southern Nuclear Operating Co. violated its regulations for tone alert radios that are given to residents near the two-unit plant to alert them in case of a radiological emergency.
In early 2008, Farley plant employees identified that more than 100 tone alert radios had not been distributed to addresses within the plant's 10-mile emergency planning zone.
A subsequent review identified additional addresses that had also not received the radios.
Southern Nuclear distributed radios to those addresses and revised the plant's procedures. The violation was rated as low to moderate in safety significance. Such findings usually result in additional inspections and oversight.
