DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - For Keith Seagle and supporters it's not exactly the outcome they hoped it would be.

As election results swarmed in, they watched and waited in Seagle's Dothan home wondering if things would start going their way.

But unfortunately the tables didn't turn for the Seagle campaign. Longtime Dothan businessman Mike Schmitz took home the mayoral title.

"I wanted to call Mike and say congratulations," says Seagle.

Seagle says he knew all along he was in for a tough race.

"I was always a long shot, but like I said, I kinda feel a little bit like Han Solo, don't tell me the odds."

He says he didn't let the odds stop him--promising residents he would cut taxes and decrease city spending.  It's a promise he's still ready to keep.

"I want to be the one who stands up for the average working people."

Seagle says the next few days are filled with taking down political signs around town and relaxation.

But next week it's back to work as Dothan's District 6 Commissioner.
