Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) - A Montgomery church is on a mission to keep its members and the community fit. The Mount Gillard Baptist Church Health and Wellness Ministries hosted a community relay Saturday.
"We're doing different screenings. They're out here exercising. People coming in and doing lectures on diabetes, stress. Anything related to health issues is going to be done here, " said The Rev. Henry Carnegie, Jr.
Nearly a hundred participants began the day with a heart pumping walk. Other events included discussions on the importance of eating healthy, how to prepare proper meals, medical screenings and fun activities for the kids.
"We're trying to reduce the incidents of obesity. It's a primary disease that leads to so many other secondary diseases," said organizer Choona Lang.
