EXCLUSIVE: Trouble on the Boulevard

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Private investigator John White works security for Montgomery's T. A. Travel Center.

After more than 10 years on the city's South Boulevard, he's seen it all.

"We do have some serious problems with purses being stolen.  People being robbed of their purses and their wallets and their money," White explained.

After following countless suspects to an old abandoned furniture building just yards away, White decided to bring along a video camera.

He captured video of drug addicts, makeshift shelters, and an utterly ravaged building.

"All of the copper and [. . .] anything that can be recycled has been ripped out," White described.

The video highlights a bigger problem.

"We've written almost 400 trespass notices and about 90 warrants in 7 months," White said.

He keeps a logbook filled with hundreds of pictures and reports.

While it's tough enough to keep an eye on trespassers and criminals, White says it's a different ball game when they're keeping an eye on you.

"I had a prostitute one time tell me, 'That's not your regular vehicle that you drive, and why are you here at 3 o'clock at night?' I said, 'you don't know when I'm working,'" White said.

WSFA 12 News has yet to hear back from city leaders regarding the ownership of the building in question or if the facility is slated for demolition.
