AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - The father of an Auburn University student whose disappearance sparked an international search says he's hired a private investigator to find the man.

Twenty-nine year old Michael Griffin Harrie disappeared more than two weeks ago. He was last seen on security camera footage at the Bangkok Airport.

"We're thinking that anybody in Thailand may have seen him and maybe can say 'Hey, I know that guy, or I've seen that guy,'" said Paul Harrie. "We just don't know if he's safe and wandering around or if he's been injured. We just have no idea."

The AU vet school student was taking part in a study abroad program in Japan and was last seen July 14th. He decided to make a sightseeing trip to Thailand and was supposed to meet his parents back in Japan, but he never showed up.

Auburn representatives have traveled to Tokyo, Japan to help Harrie's family in their search.

If you have any information that could help in the search, call Auburn's security office at (334) 844-8888.

The case is currently being handled as a missing persons case.
