Still no state refund for many

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The state of Alabama rushed to meet the July 15 deadline to payout state income tax returns before it was required to start tacking interest onto the payments.

But some folks still haven't gotten their money back two weeks later.

Monday the state department of revenue revealed that some 80,000 Alabamians who filed on time haven't yet been paid.

The department says those returns filed "on time" were flagged because of questionable items on the return. Some may have errors while others may be missing documents.

The state says approximately 50,000 of those are refund returns while the other 30,000 were taxpayers who still owe the state.

If you filed on time and haven't received your money, the state says it will add interest to the mailed payment check.

More than 1.2 million returns where processed in Alabama this year.
