DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -Its neighbors taking a stand against crime.

Tuesday the Dothan Police Department along with other local law enforcement agencies put on National Night Out.

National Night Out is a neighborhood crime and drug prevention event.  It creates awareness of crime and promotes a spirit in community-police partnerships.

"We appreciate the police department and we wanted to see what they doing," says Lyndon Flemming, a Dothan resident.

Residents throughout the wiregrass are meeting their local law enforcement, learning what they do every day.

"I think it build report with the community and I think that's a very important thing and the police department is taking care of us and it's good for the people to know who their police officers are," adds Flemming.

And for those in uniform they're hoping this night helps them reach more people.

"We as law enforcement can meet with the community one on one and they can get to know us and we can get to know them and they can learn a little but about us," says Lt. David Jay of the Dothan Police Department.

Various agencies all took time to be a part of national night out.
