Special Session summary - Day 2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature today, the 2nd day of a special session:

HOUSE

-Met briefly and took care of procedural matters necessary for bills concerning Jefferson County financial crisis to come up for vote on House floor Wednesday.

-Passed a resolution honoring members of volunteer fire and rescue units in Alabama.

SENATE

-Met briefly to deal with procedural issues.

COMMITTEES

-Senate Finance and Taxation-Education Committee approved bill extending unemployment benefits. Goes to Senate.

-Senate Finance and Taxation-Education Committee approved bill passed bill allowing state to issue bonds when school systems have pooled projects together into the same bond issue. Goes to Senate.

-House Jefferson County Legislation Committee passed bills that would levy a .45 percent occupational tax in Jefferson County and that would create the positions of comptroller and county manager in Jefferson County government. Go to House.

-House Commerce Committee approved a bill extending unemployment benefits. Goes to House.

-House Education Appropriations Committee approved a bill allowing state to issue bonds when school systems have pooled projects together into the same bond issue. Goes to House. AGENDA

-House meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday and the Senate at 5 p.m.
