MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A 52-year-old man who was found lying in a yard on July 6 has died of his wounds at a local hospital.

Montgomery police say medics found Charlie Harris at 1425 Hale Street and transported him to Jackson Hospital where he remained in a coma until his death Tuesday.

Police were never called to the original report, but they did respond to the family's call two weeks later that said the victim may have been assaulted.

An autopsy was ordered immediately after Mr. Harris died and it confirmed blunt force injuries to the head.

Charles Johnson, 54, who lives at the home where Harris' body was found, was arrested and charged with murder. Witnesses confirmed to police that Johnson had been kicking and punching the victim on the day he was found.

Investigators say they haven't pinpointed an exact motive, but alcohol is a related factor. Both Johnson and Harris were drinking before the incident.

Johnson is being held on a $60,000 bond at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
