Tribe seeks permission to operate dog tracks

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - The Poarch Band of the Creek Indians has begun the process of seeking regulatory permission to operate greyhound race tracks in Mobile and in Pensacola, Fla.

The president and CEO of Poarch Creek Indian Gaming, Jay Dorris, said Monday the tribe is also seeking permission to operate a poker room at the Pensacola track.

Dorris says the tribe began seeking permits after purchasing controlling interest in the two tracks. He said the tracks would be operated as private facilities under the rules of the two states and not as Indian gaming operations.

He said the tribe has applied for applications with the Mobile Racing Commission and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Registration.
