    In my editorial on Tuesday I chided our legislators for being the last state to pass a no-brainer  bill legalizing home brewing.  Today I want to challenge them to be one of the first states to pass another no-brainer;

    Kudos, or perhaps, cheers to the Alabama Legislature for passing HB9, the home brewing bill. Legalized home brewing may not be up there with education reform or prison funding, but it was overdue.

The effort by many to cut Montgomery's spending by nine million dollars is commendable.

The budget process led to tough choices and logical process changes.

Arguably, the government will be run more efficiently.

And possibly money will be left in reserve, in sharp contrast to the past two budgets.

Those budgets drained the city of its 28 million dollars in reserve.

City Council should give it careful review. 

We think it deserves approval.

We hope the council offers more revenue generating suggestions to forestall further cuts.

Ultimately, revenue growth will create more resources and make sure we keep the services we enjoy.
