Dothan, AL (WSFA) - Congressman Bobby Bright made a stop in the Wiregrass Thursday, at the Dothan Pediatric Clinic.
He joined the clinic in accepting an award from "Reach Out and Read."
The "Reach Out and Read" program gives free books to children after doctor's visits, and encourages parents to read to them.
In all, twelve clinics in Bright's district participate in the program.
Congressman Bright says, "It's already proven that if you start a child early and expose them to the opportunities to read, that child becomes healthier. Not only physically, but mentally as well. And the chances of that child becoming a more productive member of that community are greater."
"Reach Out and Read" ensures every visiting child starts kindergarten with at least ten books.
