LOWNDES COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - An accident Thursday evening tied up traffic for hours on Interstate 65.
State troopers tell WSFA 12 News a sing SUV overturned in the northbound lanes of the interstate, near the 146 mile marker.
The vehicle came to rest on the embankment. Troopers report two people were injured.
Medics rushed one victim by ambulance to a Montgomery hospital. The other victim--who was forced out the window--was in such bad shape, they needed an emergency flight to the ER.
"We had one ejection, partially. At this time, that's the one that was transported by Lifelight. [. . .] We have some tire fragments on the roadway. We're uncertain whether or not they belong to this vehicle, we're going to conduct the investigation and have a full report ready," explained Trooper Chad Bright.
Accident investigators are looking at those tire fragments to see if the SUV blew a tire before rolling over and coming to a stop on the side of the highway.
The scene is clear, and traffic is now running smoothly, according to troopers.
