Houston County, (WSFA) - Houston County workers won't see a raise next year.
County Commissioners announced that next year's budget includes both a wage freeze and a freeze on new hires.
This is the first time in 20 years the county has done away with its step raises, but it will save nearly $400-thousand dollars.
This solution also prevented the county from any lay-offs.
Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver said, "It's a bad situation. We hate not giving our employees raises, but we can only use the money that we have, and this is a tough year from a revenue perspective."
