MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A former University of South Alabama student is linked to Al-Qaeda.

Published reports state a grand jury indicted Omar Hammami Friday on charges of providing material support to terrorists.

The Alabama resident spoke out shorlty after September 11th, 2001.

Hammami, a Muslim, said he was afraid people would take their anger out on him.

However, Hammami states there was a different reaction.  He said,"One guy passed by and said some  words in his car other than that, though, we've had the opposite. We've had  lots of phone calls saying, you know, we're supporting you and all these different things."

The U.S. attorney's office has decline to comment on the case.
