ELMORE CO. (WSFA) - The Humane Society of Elmore County is asking you to click your mouse for a good cause!

Supporters are being urged to take part in the $100,000 shelter challenge hosted by The Animal Rescue Site.

The contest started September 14 and runs through December 20, 2009.

Pet lovers can vote by going to this site, typing in the shelter's name and the state. Voting is allowed one time each day until the contest ends.

Director Rea Cord said the shelter was ranked 8th in the state at one point in the week, but other shelters are getting a lot of votes.

In all, some 73 grants will be awarded for a grand total of $100,000.

Eligible organizations with the most votes could receive a weekly prize and/or one of the other grants:

Grand Prize:  One $20,000 grant

Second Prize:  One $5,000 grant

Third Prize:  One $3,000 grant

Most Touching Story*:  Two $2,000 grants
(judged by The Animal Rescue Site)

State Winners:  Fifty-one $1,000 state grants
(50 U.S. states and Washington DC)

(Several Canadian awards and weekly $1,000 awards factor in for a $100,000 total)

And yes, the picture is of a cat and mouse. Happy clicking!
