MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Alabama Department of Transportation today closed the bridge at State Route 22, Milepost 55 near Maplesville in Chilton County to repair damage found during a routine route inspection by a member of ALDOT's Maplesville District.
ALDOT officials expect repairs to be completed in time for the bridge to be reopened by Saturday morning, weather permitting.
Traffic originating from Maplesville on State Route 22 will be detoured onto State Route 191 to Jemison, then to U.S. 31 to State Route 22 in Clanton. Traffic originating from Clanton on State Route 22 will be detoured onto U.S. 31 then to State Route 191 back to State Route 22.
"This is yet another example of ALDOT identifying a safety issue and responding to it by repairing the bridge and restoring traffic," said ALDOT spokesman Tony Harris. "This process helps us fulfill our mission of providing a safe, efficient transportation system."
