SMITHS STATION, AL (WSFA) - The Lee County Sheriff's Department says they've located a body in a wooded area just off Lee Road 447.

The body, said to be in advanced stages of decomposition, was discovered late Sunday afternoon.

Lee County Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Manning pronounced the body dead at the scene at 9:00 PM. It was then transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.

Authorities hope to make a positive identification on the body as well.

Based on the preliminary investigation, investigators do not believe foul play is involved.

The case remains under investigation by the Lee County Coroner, Lee County Sheriff's office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
