Troy set to host Mississippi State in 2012

Troy University Director of Athletics Steve Dennis announced today that a contract has been signed with Mississippi State University to bring the Bulldogs to Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium during the 2012 season.

The addition of the home game with MSU completes Troy's non-conference football schedules through 2012. The game with MSU that year is the first of three games with the Bulldogs. Troy will travel to Starkville to face MSU in 2013 and 2015.

"We are very excited to have Mississippi State coming to Troy," Dennis said. "This will be the first time a member of the Southeastern Conference will play in Movie Gallery Stadium, and we hope this opens doors for more SEC teams to play in Troy in the future."

The home game with the Bulldogs is scheduled for September 8, 2012, and gives Troy a guaranteed six home games that season. The other non-conference games on the schedule that year are at UAB (Sept. 15), at Tennessee (Nov. 3) and at home against Navy (Nov. 10).

"This is something we are all very excited about and looking forward to," Trojans head coach Larry Blakeney said. "Having an SEC team come to Troy is a big step in the right direction. The other positive is this gives us two games down the road that are very manageable trips for our fans, and against a program we have a history with."

Troy faced Mississippi State in each of its first two seasons of play as a member of Division I (now Football Bowl Subdivision). The Trojans defeated the Bulldogs 21-9 in 2001 and dropped an 11-8 decision to MSU in 2002.

The dates for the two games against Mississippi State in Starkville are Sept. 21, 2013, and Sept. 26, 2015.
