DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -   For the past twelve years Dothan Mayor Pat Thomas has served on the Dothan City Commission.

Eight as a commissioner and the last four as mayor.

"I knew early on that it was something that I wanted to pursue, and I have a great love for this city, and it has been wonderful to share that love by serving," says Thomas.

After more than a decade of service Thomas is wrapping up his career as a public servant.

"In one way it is relief but in another way I'm going to miss it a lot," adds Thomas.

With just days left before the new mayor takes office, Thomas reflects on those goals he set out to accomplish four years ago.

"We did a tremendous amount of planning and a lot of infrastructure work and in my mind we have really prepared Dothan for the future and that was my whole intent to do that and make Dothan a great place for your children to come back and live and that was always the goal here," explains Thomas.

And Thomas says he accomplished that goal.

His daughter has moved back to Dothan and he plans to spend his new free time with his family.
