Kentucky searches for ways to jumpstart offense

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's opening play script might be in need of a rewrite.

The Wildcats have struggled mightily to move the ball early in games and were held to minus-1 yard in the first quarter of a 41-7 loss to No. 1 Florida on Saturday.

Coach Rich Brooks said the Wildcats need to play at a faster tempo and not take so much time at the line of scrimmage. The embarrassing first quarter against the Gators isn't a recent development. The Wildcats have been outscored 139-44 in the first quarter dating back to the start of last season.

The going won't be any easier on Saturday when the Wildcats (2-1, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) host No. 3 Alabama (4-0, 1-0). The Crimson Tide have allowed 14 points in the first quarter this year, but both came on kickoff returns.
