Bama's McClain hard on self despite accolades

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain is coach Nick Saban's kind of player.

That was proven when McClain said the perfectionist coach stopped yelling at him when he made mistakes about a week into his college career.

The reason, McClain said, is because Saban knew he'd beat himself up as bad as Saban could.

The relationship between the two Type A personalities has worked awfully well. McClain was a third-team AP All-American as a sophomore and an eight-game starter as a freshman. And now, he's the unquestioned leader of one of the nation's best defenses.

He's coming off one of his best games against Kentucky but also points out that he missed two tackles and made two mental errors. McClain did earn SEC defensive player of the week honors.
