ANDALUSIA, AL (WSFA) - The Andalusia Police Department says it has arrested two men after a high speed chase Tuesday night. The men, identified as 21-year-olds Bennie Charles DeLoach Jr. and Leonard Leon Pleasant, both of Pensacola, Fl. are charged with numerous crimes including two counts of Attempted Murder.

The incident started around 11:30PM when someone called police to report two men trying to sell drugs at Court Square. (See Court Square in the ALFA SkyVision weathercam network)

Officers in the area started a search for the suspects' white Nissan, which they found a short time later at a convenience story near the intersection of Hwy 84 and Hwy 29.

An officer tried to pull the suspects' vehicle over near Pioneer Drive, but the driver sped away. Police say the car indicated several times that it was going to pull over, but each time it sped away.

A Sheriff's deputy who was in the area was called in for assistance. Officers reported that the suspect vehicle was being driven recklessly and was forcing oncoming traffic onto the shoulder of the roadway.

Officers say they witnessed the two men throwing items from the car as the neared the river bridge in Gantt. A later search found several packages of suspected marihuana and cocaine in the area.

The pursuit continued north on Hwy 29 through the town of Gantt to a location just south of Dunn's Bridge Rd where the car collided with a Sheriff's Department patrol vehicle.

The suspect vehicle, police report, then abruptly stopped in the Hwy and was struck by an Andalusia police vehicle. The chase came to an end when officers fired shots into the vehicle's tires.

Both men were arrested on the scene and later transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital. They were released from the hospital a short time later.
