BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Southwestern Athletic Conference has reprimanded Grambling State football coach Rod Broadway for his comments regarding the officiating during the Tigers' game against Alabama A&M earlier this month.
SWAC Commissioner Duer Sharp said Tuesday that Broadway acknowledged the criticism following the Oct. 10 game was inappropriate and notes that the letter of reprimand is appropriate. Sharp says the league's coaches and administrators are held "to the highest standards and we expect them to conduct themselves in a way which brings credibility and professionalism to the conference." "Public criticism of our game officials in any sport will not be condoned by coaches, administrators or student-athletes," Sharp said.
The reprimand does not include a suspension, but Sharp says any future incident could result in a fine and suspension from athletic competition.
