Governor Bob Riley and Abdul Kalam met in the governor's office to discuss ways to strengthen economic ties between India and Alabama.
Riley also announced an economic development mission.
Riley stated, "I'm pleased to announce that I will be leading a business and trade mission to India during the first week of May next year. Primary purpose of this mission is to support job creation and to stimulate and support trade, investment and joint ventures."
While in the capital city, Kalam also visited Alabama State University.
He toured the school's new life science building which houses molecular biology teaching labs and science programs.
Before serving as India's President, Kalam was known as one of India's most distinguished scientists.
