MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Alabama's 10-point-7 unemployment figure is the worst among the 50 states. That means 223-thousand Alabamians are out oof work. A year ago, the state's 5-point-4 percent unemployment rate ranked about middle to the pack.

In efforts to beef our state's workforce, Governor Bob Riley will speak at the Alabama Workforce Development Conference at 1:00 p.m. to discuss new contracts in the works to promote jobs in the region. The conference will be held at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention and will continue through Friday.
