MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The University of Alabama system schools coming under fire Wednesday.
State representative Duwayne Bridges wants UAB and the University of Huntsville to drop plans to extend benefits to same sex partners.
He also discourages the Tuscaloosa campus from implementing it.
The republican says, "all signs indicate our state budget will suffer catastrophic cuts in the next few years and that is no time for these publicly-funded schools to needlessly extend benefits to gay employees who chose to live a certain lifestyle."
Bridges says he is considering legislation to take state funding from institutions who offer domestic partner benefits.
