DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. (WSFA) - President Barack Obama was on hand early this morning when the bodies of 18 Americans killed in Afghanistan returned to the U.S. He also met with families of fallen troops during his early morning trip to Delaware's Dover Air Force Base.

Currently, October has been the deadliest month for U.S. soldiers in the Middle East. The visit comes as the president considers whether to send more U.S. forces to Afghanistan due to the request of military commanders.

The visit was not scheduled on the president's schedule and was kept a secret. Only a small group of reporters were  notified in advance.
