Clanton man arrested for timber theft

CLANTON, AL - The Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) and the Chilton County Sheriff's Department have arrested and charged Jimmy Keith Baker, 37, of Clanton on 13 counts of selling timber without permission and 12 counts of giving false information when selling timber.

Police say the thefts took place between July 17 and October 1, 2009, and involved timber being harvested from Autauga, Shelby, and Macon counties.

The timber was valued at over $6000.00 and was sold in Chilton County.

If convicted, Baker faces up to $1000 fine and up to 12 months in jail for each count. Baker was arrested October 16 and is currently being held in the Chilton County jail.  He is scheduled to be tried in Chilton County District Court on November 16.
