MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Public School System says it wants to clear up any misconceptions that an overseas trip recently taken by Superintendent Barbara Thompson was funding by taxpayers.

Thompson participated in a delegation that visited Japan and Korea in September. (Read her blog about the trip).

School spokesperson Tom Salter says a private citizen payed Thompson's way, and the man's name was released Friday. Dave Borden underwrote the trip.

"He understood the importance of her being a part of the group," Salter said in a news release.

Borden is no stranger to the Montgomery school system. In addition to being an area businessman and community advocate, he also served as a former member of the school board.
