"We have 20 companies that represent 11,000 jobs that the chamber of commerce, city, county and state are pursuing to come to Montgomery, AL," said Mayor Todd Strange.
At a press conference Wednesday Mayor Strange gave the good news first: New construction permits are up 63%, electrical inspections are up 6%, and the cost of living is 23% below the national average. "Then we have the not so good," said Strange.
The bad: the latest sales tax collections dropped 9.7% from the same time last year. Another down month could mean furloughs for city workers.
While the mayor looks for ways to save money, he asks others to spend saying, "Go buy something."
