Adams AU's surprise star, Benton playing catch-up

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Darvin Adams didn't get much attention during the preseason. Auburn's sophomore receiver will settle for lots of touchdowns instead.

Adams is leading the SEC with nine touchdown catches, three shy of Terry Beasley's 38-year-old school record. He still has at least two games to go, starting Saturday night at Georgia.

Adams made only three catches last season, which helps explain the lack of hype. Another factor: The signing of highly touted 21-year-old freshman DeAngelo Benton.

The two became friends early in fall camp. Benton is showing signs of increasing his own role alongside the player he calls his "little big brother." He had six catches for 88 yards against Furman.

Adams caught three more TD passes in the first half alone.
