Launch underway for Shuttle Atlantis

Cape Canaveral, FL (WSFA) - The countdown is underway for liftoff of Space Shuttle Atlantis. It is scheduled to blast off around 1:30 p.m., carrying tons of spare parts for the International Space Station. The crew of six will spend Thanksgiving in space.

The launch will be Kennedy Space Center's first official tweet-up. About 100 space fans will live tweet at the launch while on location. One of the crew members is Dr. Robert Satcher from Anniston, Alabama who will be conducting research related to rheumatic diseases.
