Auburn's Washington adapts quickly to new roles

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Demond Washington is filling new roles for Auburn.

Washington has gone from backup cornerback to starting safety and return man over the past couple of weeks. The defensive move was made after a season-ending neck injury to Zac Etheridge.

Washington has already made a big impact in the Tigers' struggling return game. He had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Georgia and tallied a school-record 229 return yards to earn Southeastern Conference special teams player of the week honors.

Washington and the Tigers are off this week before playing No. 2 Alabama the day after Thanksgiving.
