MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) - Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley is speaking out about the tarnished relationship between his city and its Chamber of Commerce.
Seven of the chamber's 12 board members resigned recently and in a news release, the Chamber's director says the members quit because of political pressure from Mayor Kelley.
"We're willing to sit down with the Mayor and council and resolve this issue that we have before us right now. The problem is you have to have both parties willing to do that," stated Stephanie Godwin, Chamber executive director.
"There are a couple of board members that are very knowledgeable and I'm hoping that they will bring this to a close," said Mayor Kelley.
The director also says that Kelley cut city funds to the Chamber.
The mayor's accounting firm has done the Chamber's bookkeeping for years.
Mayor Kelley says he would be glad to hand it over once he gets a request from the Chamber board.
