TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Piedmont High School has won its first state football championship with a 35-28 victory over Cordova in overtime.
Christian Cantrell scored four touchdowns, including the game-winner on a 6-yard run, to give Piedmont the Class 3A title in Birmingham on Thursday.
Each team scored four touchdowns through four quarters and ended regulation tied at 28.
Piedmont got the ball first in overtime and the Bulldogs scored in three plays, highlighted by Cantrell's scoring run off the left side.
Cordova got the ball with a chance to tie or win, but fumbled on its second play. Piedmont recovered to end the game.
Both teams finished the season at 13-2.
