Montgomery, AL (WSFA) - Police in the Capitol City are investigating the city's latest murder. Authorities found a 58-year-old man dead inside his home Sunday night.

Police responded to a call on Goldbug Street, not far from Oakwood Cemetery around 5:20 p.m. When they arrived, they found the man dead from multiple gun shot wounds.

Police tell us witnesses saw the suspect go inside the residence; they believe he was buying drugs. Shortly after they heard multiple gun shots. The victim then emerged from the house and the suspect attempted to rob him. The victim tried to run, but the suspect gunned him down.

Major Huey Thornton from the Montgomery Police Department said, "The victim fled on foot, and the suspect from what the victim was saying fired shots at him. We are in the process of processing the scene and conducting our investigation, but all indications are that this was not a random act but a drug deal gone bad."

The police do not have the suspect in custody at this time.

If you have any information that could have police, you're asked to call the Montgomery Area Crimestoppers hotline at 215-stop.
