MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Heavy rainfall and fierce winds made roadways and sky travel hazards for folks in North Alabama. The Huntsville area sustained major flooding, leaving cars stuck or submerged in high water.

Some schools in the Tennessee Valley are delaying their opening today due to unsafe roadways.

Also, strong winds in Birmingham caused difficult landing for a small plane. Authorities say the plane was re-routed several times between Bessemer and Birmingham's airports. As the plane was landing, strong gust of winds blew it off the runway. Authorities say the pilot had no injuries.
