Realtors endorse Byrne for Alabama governor

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A prominent business group, the Alabama Association of Realtors, has endorsed Republican Bradley Byrne for governor.

Association officials announced the endorsement Wednesday in Montgomery. They said Byrne was a watchdog of public education funding while serving as Alabama's chancellor for two-year colleges, and he has the charisma to promote Alabama to new businesses. Byrne said he was proud to get the first major business endorsement of the 2010 campaign for governor. The association has 15,500 members. It traditionally endorses early in a race for governor, and its endorsement is often an indicator of who other large business groups will endorse.
