Loveless Academic Magnet School (LAMP) senior Alfred Hamilton, III, says the news was greeted with a thunderous applause Thursday morning.

"It was pretty exciting," said Hamilton.

U.S. News and World Report ranked LAMP as the 20th best public high school in the country, up from 25th one year ago.

"It's all the hard work and the dedication by the faculty and the the students,"said principal Liz Norman.

The ranking was based on academic and enrollment information from more than 21,000 public high schools from around the nation.

"We've all very excited because we know the caliber of teaching and learning that goes on," said Norman.
