Historic mayoral race

HOUSTON, TX (WSFA) - An historic election in Houston, which is now the first major U.S. city with an openly gay mayor.

Voters went to the polls Saturday and elected Annise Parker.

Previously a three term city council member and controller, Parker is the first lesbian to be elected mayor of the city.

Houston is the fourth largest city in the country, based on population.
