MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Artur Davis ran into one of the other candidates for governor while making a speech to a Montgomery civic club.
Davis spoke to the Montgomery Rotary Club on Monday. His audience included State Treasurer Kay Ivey, who's a club member.
Davis told the club that Alabama has come a long way from the days when a woman and a black man wouldn't have been considered for governor.
Davis said he and Ivey agree that the state government needs to stand behind the state's prepaid college tuition plan, which is administered by the state treasurer.
Ivey spoke to the same civic club earlier in the year.
