Debra A. Chiarella, M.D., has served as a breast imaging specialist at Montgomery Breast Center since June 2006. She has also treated patients at imaging centers in Tucson and Phoenix Arizona; Salem, Virginia; and Springfield and Boston, Massachusetts. A member of the Society of Breast Imaging and the Society of Breast Diseases, she has published research findings in such publications as RadioGraphics and Radiology.
Dr. Chiarella is certified by the National Board of Medicine Examiners and the American Board of Radiology. She graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, graduating summa cum laude with a BFA degree, then returned to study premedical sciences at Columbia University. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University before performing her internal medicine internship at Lenox Hill Hospital. After a residency in diagnostic radiology at the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center, she served a fellowship in thoracic imaging and mammography at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
An avid painter, potter and yoga enthusiast, Dr. Chiarella is also involved in the activities of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and particularly the Joy to Life Foundation – taking part in its breast cancer walk and its fundraising fishing competition, the Pink Lure Tour. Each October, she speaks to various local women's groups about breast cancer awareness.
