Flaming Car stalls Interstate 85 Traffic

Tallassee, Ala (WSFA) -- Troopers are investigating a hit and run accident on Interstate 85 North, near Exit 26, that's the Tallassee exit.

It happened around 11:15 PM Thursday night.

The driver of the car tells WSFA 12 News he entered on the I-85 with a full tank of gas and that's when he says a van hit him from behind.

The car then erupted into flames, the driver and another passenger were able to get out of the burning car unharmed.  According to the driver, the van then fled the scene.

An 18-Wheeler driver immediately stopped to assist and call authorities.

Just after midnight, State Troopers caught up with van and arrested the driver on DUI charges.

The investigation continues.
